USB-C ports are sturdy, but they're not invincible — daily plugging and unplugging, pocket lint, and the occasional drop all take a toll over time. The good news is that charging issues are usually one of the more straightforward things we see on the bench.
Signs the port needs a look
- The cable only charges when held at a certain angle
- Charging speed has noticeably slowed down
- The phone isn't recognised when connected to a computer
- Visible lint, dust or corrosion inside the port itself
How we go about it
We rule out the simple stuff first — a worn cable or a tired wall adapter cause more trouble than people expect. If the port itself is the issue, we either clean it out carefully or fit a replacement, then test charging speed and connection stability before handing it back.
Why it's worth sorting properly
A loose or damaged port is also more likely to let moisture in over time — better to have it looked at properly than risk a bigger problem down the track.
