Games stuttering
when they didn't used to?

A laptop that once ran smoothly and now chugs along is telling you something — usually something fixable.

Frame rate drops rarely come out of nowhere. Something has usually changed — the laptop's gotten dustier, hotter, busier with background programs, or simply older — and once you know what's actually going on, there's often a clear path back to smoother performance.

The usual suspects

  • Heat build-up. Dust clogging the vents and fans makes components slow themselves down to avoid overheating.
  • Background programs. Updates, browser tabs and startup apps quietly eating into available power.
  • Outdated drivers. Graphics drivers in particular can make a noticeable difference when they fall behind.
  • Storage running low or ageing. A nearly-full or older drive can drag everything else down with it.
  • Genuine hardware wear. Thermal paste dries out, fans wear down, and components simply age.

How we approach it

We check the laptop over properly — internal temperatures, fan condition, dust build-up, drive health and background load — rather than guess at a single cause. From there we clean it out, address what's actually wearing it down, and explain plainly what we found and what it'll take to fix.

Worth doing before considering an upgrade

A clean-out and a proper service brings a surprising number of “tired” laptops back to feeling like new. We'll tell you honestly whether that's likely to be the case for yours.

Bring it in — we'll take a look.
