“Repair” and “replace” get used fairly loosely when it comes to laptop screens, but they can mean quite different jobs. Sometimes a cracked panel can be swapped on its own; other times the whole display assembly — panel, cables, sometimes the lid — needs to come out as one unit.
When a simple panel swap usually does it
- The crack is contained to the glass or panel itself
- The lid, hinges and surrounding frame are undamaged
- The connecting cables and webcam assembly are unaffected
When a full assembly replacement makes more sense
- The display is bonded as a single sealed unit (common on slimmer laptops and MacBooks)
- The lid or hinges took damage in the same knock
- Internal cabling or the webcam housing was also affected
How we help you decide
We open the laptop up, see exactly what's involved, and explain — in plain terms — which path makes sense for your machine and why. Then it's your call, with all the information in front of you.
